The branding and website I’ve created for Backer cocktail bar and art community is sophisticated, timeless, and creative. The aesthetics and concept of both the business and the design is inspired by the Norwegian painter, Harriet Backer. The color scheme is based on colors from her paintings and the illustrations are made by portraits of her. The fonts are classy and timeless, while the layout of the website is simple, spacious, and modern. The photography is carefully selected to match the aesthetics of the branding.

The illustrations

I’ve made three illustrations based on portraits of Harriet Backer, on different times in her life. I wanted them to have a pencil look, and be sort of unfinished, as that’s an aestetic that I envisioned for this brand. Using this style makes the illustrations timeless.

Creating the logo

I made a customized font for the logo. I searched the web for fonts I liked, and that fitted the brand. I looked for bold fonts with a modern, and sophisticated form. I picked out different letters from different fonts, to use as a starting point. I simply traced the letters with the pen tool and tweaked them a lot to create balance in the logo.
